This Quirky Vegan

What THIS vegan eats

Swedish Volcano Pizza

Have you ever found yourself scrolling through Facebook and you come across a photo of a ridiculous food idea? Well recently my husband had this experience. So he showed me the photo and said “That is awesome veganize it for me”. It turns out he was joking and didn’t think I could but I did not know that so I set out to make a vegan Swedish volcano pizza.

While looking at what it was I read it originated from Nya Gul & Blå restaurant in Sweden. It is not remotely vegan and is full of cheese and meat. But making it vegan was very simple. So it is a pizza obviously. Once made there is a hole in the middle and you fill it with salad and fries. In the end it should look a bit like this. Ok, I said it was simple but I did run into one problem…I do not have a serving plate big enough so I served in on baking paper!

I am not going to give you a recipe because you know full well what pizza toppings you like. Instruction wise watch THIS video. It is not a vegan video but it will tell you how to build the base properly.

First you need pizza dough and you can make your own or buy a packet mix. I have made it with both and both work well. Next you need roll it into a big circle like any other type of pizza. But then you need to make 3 cuts in the middle to look like this photo. Then spread tomato paste around the base and then top with your favourite vegan cheese (I am not a vegan cheese fan but do like vegAmigo pizza melty).

Pizza2For this next part I really recommend you have had a good watch of the above YouTube link! Inside the cheese and tomato circle you need place 6 small vegan sausages at the bottom of each of the inner triangles. I do not eat meat subs and my family are hit and miss with it so I have now started using wedges of mushroom instead which also works. As the video shows you need to fold the tringle parts over and then you are left with 6 pockets to fill. Fill them up with your favourite toppings. Here I used; red onions, orange tomatos, mushrooms, red peppers, sweetcorn, and tofu-wieners with Vbites peperoni. But go with whatever you like.

Before it goes in the oven it should have a big hole in the middle which once out of the oven will be filled with fries and your favourite salad.

For any stuffed crust pizza fans the bit you folded over is now stuffed with tomato, cheese, and sausage!

This was surprisingly simple to make but I think it looks impressive once made. Now I just need to buy a serving plate the is big enough!

It looks a bit like the bread I eat on the day of the Epiphany, also known as, Just Silly Catholic Things Day.

I have just done a google image search for tradition bread and they look interesting. Some seem a bit like the texture of a King cake.
